I just spent the Holidays in Paris with my family including my teenage grandchildren. La Grande Epicerie was one of the delights to explore, purchase with great anticipation, the wonderful
things we bought for dinner and carried to our apartment overlooking the Notre Dame Cathedral. We enjoyed the wonderful restaurants but what we brought home from this amazing store was certainly an unequalled pleasure.

Trevor:

We've certainly had plenty of crêpes since moving here (homemade and otherwise). I wouldn't say they're superior to American pancakes - just different. It depends on what you're in the mood for.

I totally agree with you on the cheeses. The selection here is truly fantastic!

This is posted on behalf of Trevor Dayneswood, who experienced some trouble with our anti-spam software (sorry about that!):

I'd never heard of "La Grande Épicerie", but when I read the title of your article, I automatically assumed that it was what you have described as regards the French selection – I hadn't thought of foreign produce, nor of Harrods!

As regards pancakes, surely in France you should be eating crêpes, which are far superior! The traditional British recipe for pancakes does not include baking powder, and uses plain flour
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/basilpancakswithsuga_66226.shtml), in contrast to the American recipe
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/americanpancakeswith_10459.shtml).

Are you aware of "Pancake Day" in Britain (http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/news_and_events/events_pancakeday.shtml) ?

And as regards the cheese selection (which I think you mentioned in a previous article), I'm always surprised by the poor selection of cheeses when in the USA or Canada.
